A Minnesota 4th of July

There was a small town feel to our 4th of July celebration this year. We took a trip back in time to where David grew up and joined the Brigadoon Festivities.

This morning we went to David's parents' house (Rich & Barb) in Shoreview, Minnesota where they celebrate our nation's birthday with a parade around the neighborhood. This year was special because one of the boys that grew up in the neighborhood is now a firefighter and brought an engine from the Lake Johanna Fire Department to lead the parade.

Emma stayed with Rich & Barb last night and they helped get her bike all gussied up for the morning parade. Rufus & Sunny (our dogs) were decked out in red, white, and blue bandanas. Beth, David, Braxton, and Zoe came along to watch and/or walk in the parade.

The fire truck arrived right on time at 10:00am. The kids got excited when the fire truck blew its horn and started the parade. Emma biked out with the lead group wile David followed along with the dogs. The fire truck - new to this parade - took off quite quickly and only those on bikes were able to keep up. This was the first time we've seen how fast Emma can ride her bike and David had to jog with the dogs to catch up to her.

Rich ran ahead to signal the fire truck to slow down and soon the whole parade was back together. It was a quick loop around the neighborhood and took all of fifteen minutes.

Upon returning to the assembly area, the fire truck parked and the firefighters got the hoses out. Soon it was a water party as the firefighters sprayed the court and children and adults alike ran through the water.

After the parade, David drove up to Monticello to pick up Paul & Gretchen. Then we returned to Rich & Barb's house for a 4th of July Barbecue. We had hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, coleslaw, and chips. Then there was ice cream and cake for dessert. Yum!!!

Tonight we will watch fireworks at Central Park in Roseville.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, U-S-A!!!
